Angelo Iaia (Fasano, 1994) is a visual artist based in Milan. His artistic practice makes use of video and photography to present, from an anthropological perspective, certain distinctive elements of his native region, Puglia. By focusing on local traditions, the artist revives historical and local narratives and practices that have died out or are disappearing, using them to construct new imaginaries capable of engaging in a dialogue with the contemporary world.
Recently, his interest has turned toward exploring the concept of magic understood as an ancestral ritual practice through which human beings confront and navigate moments of adversity, pain, and celebration in the various phases of social and individual life. By reactivating ritual as a collective practice in his work, he explores new forms of meaningful participation and connection that respond to needs still present today.
He graduated from the DAMS in Bologna and subsequently earned a master’s degree in New Technologies in Art with a specialization in Photography from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.
